Highest Indian Army Ranks is Field Marshal

The Highest Rank for Indian Army is Field Marshal, but this honorary rank does not exist in the present army structure. However, two distinguished officers hold this rank, they are Late Sam Manekshaw and Late K M Cariappa. But, In the new structure of Indian Army Ranks "Colonel General" is the highest position, which is held by chief of staff committee or chief of army staff of Indian Army.

A General Officer is a flag officer of high Indian Army Rank, usually in the army. The term is widely used by many nations of the world, and when a country uses a different term, there is an equivalent title given.
The insignia has Golden Indian National Emblem outlined in red color, below that there is a golden star which is outlined in red. Then at last, a crossed gold, baton and scimitar again outlined in red.


The rank General can be used: as the generic title for all grades of general officer; and as a specific rank. In 20th century, the rank of General is usually the highest active rank of a military. An officers who commanded more than one regiment came to be known as "general officers".
